MISSION STATEMENT  

GOLDEN YEARS INC. was founded and incorporated in the state of Illinois on June 5th 1990 as a non-profit corporation. As a non-profit corporation we are registered as such with the office of the Illinois Attorney General. Our non-profit number is CO1-21685. In addition we are qualified under IRS 501 (c) 3 as a charity.

We are dedicated to helping low income senior citizens, living in low income subsidized housing sites to a bit of holiday cheer when loneliness and depression can be unbearable. Many of these folks feel all alone in the world. We want to let them know they're not forgotten and that someone still cares.

In addition to providing seniors with wholesome holiday meals we encourage important social interaction with other seniors during these very difficult times. Our meals are provided at NO COST to the seniors and are served on EASTER, JULY 4th, THANKSGIVING, and CHRISTMAS. We average over 18,000 meals per year at more than 81 housing sites in Boone, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and Winnabago counties. The meals are prepared and delivered by professional catering firms that employ staff nutritionists to ensure a proper dietary balance fitting the special needs of seniors as described by the FDA. Our fund raising is accomplished primarily through telephone solicitation. We make every effort to ensure that individual donations are used in the communities from which they are collected. We do not produce multi-page, multi-color brochures. We do not use professional fund raisers. Our telephone workers are not paid a commission on donations. Every effort is made to hold administrative costs to the barest minimum. These policies are necessary to ensure the maximum benefit to the seniors.
